People with disabilities often worry that their condition might make their life full of limitations and impossibilities. However, through proper treatment and genuine compassion, the goals and dreams of disabled individuals are always within reach.
Luckily, this is the same purpose that drives the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) when caring for their participants in Newcastle. NDIS Newcastle understands the challenges and adjustments that come with a disability. And so, with the help of health care providers and support networks, the NDIS can provide services that will significantly improve the overall wellbeing of their participants. With NDIS, the road to recovery becomes an easier and rewarding path to take.
Understanding NDIS
Over the years, the NDIS has helped thousands of Australian participants who have been diagnosed with a permanent and significant disability. This means that disability is likely to be a lifelong condition and that it greatly affects the way the person performs daily activities. This includes disabilities that affect the physical, intellectual, psychosocial, sensory, or cognitive aspects of an individual. NDIS can provide funding for a participant’s individualised package, which includes the necessary services and facilities to aid their condition.
Now, NDIS has reached out to residents in Newcastle who wish to avail of these services and assistance. Through NDIS, persons with disabilities can be provided with important connections and information which can allow them to better cope with their personal and social lives. Once accepted as a participant, NDIS Newcastle can provide their participants with access to health specialists including doctors and psychologists, schools, libraries, support groups, and social clubs to further enrich their development.
These services are what NDIS considers reasonable and necessary so that the participant may gain independence over time and be able to engage actively in social and economic activities. Not only will these services be innovative and high-quality, but they will also support the interests and dislikes the participant, thus helping in answering the demands of their disability and ensuring that it can allow the pursuit of their goals.
Services offered by NDIS Newcastle
NDIS offers a wide range of supports and services that are targeted to assist the different aspects of a participant’s life. Even better, the participant has full autonomy while choosing which support or service is best for them.
It is essential to know that while NDIS wishes to provide the participants with the best type of care, it can only fund supports that are reasonable and necessary. This requires the supports to be related to the participant’s disability and be effective to them. It should be able to represent value for money and lead participants a step closer to their aspirations. These supports should also encourage the participant to become more independent while becoming more confident in participating in community activities and work-related events. Through these supports, participants can enjoy an ordinary and colourful life.
The services funded by the NDIS are the following:
Personal Care
This includes daily activities relating to personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, bowel management, and menstrual care. This service also extends to assistance in eating, drinking, and moving from one room to another. Additionally, this may include help regarding the use of appliances, aids, and communication devices.
Home Modifications
Under this service, the participant’s home can undergo modifications, like construction and design, to allow them to move comfortably and safely in their quarters. Additionally, NDIS can also help with household jobs that will maintain the participant’s home.
Job Employment
NDIS can offer supports that will help the participant work efficiently and successfully so that they can keep their job. Additionally, NDIS can also assist them in looking for a suitable job.
Transportation
NDIS funds transportation services for the participant’s social, economic, or community-related events. This will make it easier for them to engage in positive and healthy activities with other people, all while strengthening their skills in building relationships and communication.
Mobility Equipment
Funding for mobility can include vehicular modifications to make a car accommodate the participant’s condition better. Moreover, NDIS can also provide the participant with equipment that will allow them to move around freely and easily.
Therapy
NDIS can give participants access to therapeutic supports, speech therapy, behaviour management, and occupational therapy. All of these supports will be managed and conducted by NDIS-registered health-care providers in Newcastle who have undergone professional training.
Other Necessary Aides
Participants can also be given equipment and aides which will be convenient for their condition. These materials aim to strengthen their independence and boost their self-confidence. Moreover, NDIS personnel in Newcastle can also assist the participant with setting up the equipment, training with the equipment, and conducting assessments.
In managing the services that the participant will receive, NDIS will also be taking into account the other formal and informal supports that the participant gets. These may be assistance coming from the participant’s family, community, caretakers, or government agencies. The support coming from NDIS will not include the everyday costs of the participant that have no relevance to the needs of their disability. Furthermore, NDIS will not be funding the participant’s hospital visits, school teacher aides, and other supports that are being taken care of by the government.
