People with a significant and permanent disability living in Brisbane can get the opportunity to get support from the NDIS or the National Disability Insurance Scheme to help with the challenges that their disabilities bring. The NDIS in Brisbane has set out to bring funding for the support and services that people with disabilities need in their daily lives and to help them reach their goals.

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS or National Disability Insurance Scheme is a scheme developed by the Australian Government to give support to Australians with disabilities into helping them living life as normally as possible through necessary services and support. The NDIS is set out to roll out throughout the entire country by 2020 with its participants having individualised treatment plans called NDIS plans to help alleviate the everyday challenges of their disabilities.

This scheme is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency or the NDIA with the understanding that every individual with a disability has unique struggles, needs, and goals in life, thus they provide their participants the opportunity to develop their treatment plans or NDIS plan to specifically select the services and support they need with great consideration of their goals.

One of the main goals of the NDIS is to give support to people with disabilities to help them live life as normally as possible and gain independence throughout as they receive the support and services that they require. This scheme has a long-term goal to help its participants eventually live life as normally as possible with their disabilities, integrate and participate in their communities, and join the workforce.

The NDIS is focused to fund support and services to its participants, especially people experiencing everyday challenges from their intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive, and psychosocial disabilities. These disabilities need to be both permanent and significant for the NDIS to give support to the participants.

The NDIS can connect their participants with the necessary services and support they can find in their communities such as doctors, sports clubs, schools, and support groups, all of which are carefully curated and credited by the NDIS to ensure quality service and support.

The NDIS is also heavily focused on providing their participants with early intervention support to help reduce the negative impacts of their disability at its early stages and to prevent developmental delays. This early intervention support is readily given to both children and adult NDIS participants to give them a running start in building their skills and independence despite the challenges that their disabilities.
