NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Plan Geelong
"We currently have no in-person capacity in this area, however if you fill in our enquiry form you'll be added to our telehealth waiting list."
While everyone in Geelong should have the resources to pursue their dreams and life goals, everyone has different needs and challenges that can change their journey to a fulfilling life. This is particularly true for people with disabilities, as they will have unique challenges and needs that ordinary resources can’t fully address.
To provide Geelong residents with the right services, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was implemented recently and is currently processing applications every day to grant funding to qualified individuals. The goal of this funding is to provide benefits to NDIS Participants, so they will be equipped with the skills they need to support their individual growth.
Positive Moods offers NDIS-approved services in Geelong and one of these is the Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP), which receives funding through a Capacity Building Supports Budget. This budget aims to connect NDIS Participants to providers like Positive Moods which can help them become more independent and develop better mental health.
Positive Behaviour Support, which allows us to address a Participant’s negative behaviour and eliminate it, as well as reinforce positive coping mechanisms, falls under a category which can be funded by such a budget. If you need help from Positive Moods to improve your social skills and relationships, this may be the kind of plan you need under the NDIS.
NDIS Geelong’s Positive Behaviour Support Plan
At Positive Moods, one of the many things we do is provide services for Geelong clients who are under a PBSP. This type of plan caters best to patients who are struggling with challenging behaviours that can be harmful or dangerous to themselves or those around them. No matter how this behaviour manifests, our psychologists and counsellors at Positive Moods are confident that our understanding and conscientious treatment will turn the situation around.
While no two clients have the same support plan and needs, there are general goals that Positive Moods can focus on for every client to help them create a positive behaviour and improve their well-being. These goals are as follows:
Encourage patients to participate more actively in their Geelong community, and become socially comfortable
Teach patients how to communicate with others and remain in healthy, fulfilling relationships
Guide patients to learn more about themselves and their typical challenges in life, and why they react to stressful situations in certain ways
Build an environment where the patient knows their thoughts and feelings are treated with respect
Provide a positive atmosphere where patients can learn and enforce behaviour improvement
Get the Best Positive Behaviour Support From Positive Moods
Positive Moods counsellors and psychologists have a wealth of experience in challenging behaviours. A human’s behavior may not be easiest to understand as there are always triggers for these reactions. To address this, Positive Moods assesses an NDIS participant’s plan, seeks to get to the root of the issue, and teaches patients alternative ways of coping.
The Positive Moods team uses restrictive methods when necessary and for the shortest time needed. Its implementation will be NDIS-authorised and reported regularly to the NDIS Commission. The priority is to get patients into a more positive outlook and to teach them to employ better behavioural patterns, making them more confident and independent.
Over the course of their treatment, Positive Moods will work together with their other support providers, loved ones, and caregivers. This will help the team find out more about a patient’s behaviour with different people and environments, making our behavioural support more productive and beneficial.
Our Services Under a Positive Behaviour Support Plan
Positive Moods has professional mental health care workers who are qualified under the NDIS to provide their help to persons with disabilities. These are just some of the various services we offer under a Positive Behaviour Plan:
Intervention and Patient Assessment – in some cases, a patient’s behaviour may be very harmful to themselves and others, so we will act quickly to determine what triggers it and seek to break that pattern
Skill Building – patients will be taught how to communicate with others with more confidence and independence, and how they can become more active in their community
Limited Use of Restrictive Measures – Positive Moods will only utilise restrictive measures in pressing situations, and shall focus instead on reinforcing and teaching positive behaviour
Holistic Individual Strategising – to determine the right course of treatment, the Positive Moods team will consult patients and consider their needs, challenges, and life goals
Environment Adjustment – Positive Moods will help patients adjust to stressful situations and remove triggers, so they can warm up to building positive behaviour in a stress-free atmosphere
Inclusive Planning – all treatment will be done with regular consultations with the patient’s caretakers, service providers, and stakeholders
