Mental Health Interventions

Positive Moods understands full well the needs of people with disabilities and the wide spectrum to which they belong, and their approach has always been customer-centred since their psychological issues need to be addressed as uniquely as they come. They have the Therapeutic Support Plan which NDIS certified professionals provide support to individuals in Toowoomba by means of shared living, life transitions, community participation, and social and economic participation. The Therapeutic Support Plan includes:

  • Individual Counselling is a series of one-on-one conversations between a Positive Moods counsellor and an individual where they explore habits, emotions, and behaviours that affect the individual’s life decisions. The individual is in charge of sharing information throughout the session, and the counsellor gives a more objective view by asking a series of questions and nudging the individuals towards self-discovery and personal growth.

  • Group Counselling involves a Positive Moods counsellor facilitating a peer discussion among a small group (up to three participants) who all face a similar concern. This type of counselling provides a supportive and safe environment among the group since their similarities give them common ground and an opportunity to learn from each other. These discussions help participants navigate their mental and emotional challenges with more confidence, improve teamwork, boost social and communication skills, function better in society, and more.

  • Group Therapy gives people with disability an opportunity to work with various Positive Moods professionals in one session in a more holistic and client-centred approach. Positive Moods counsellors collaborate with the client’s NDIS providers and carry out activities are part of their treatment plan, and together they work towards attaining the individual’s goals.

  • Community Engagement Assistance empowers NDIS participants to be engaged in their community and improve relations with each other and their social networks through a group session facilitated by Positive Moods professionals. They are given assistance to function effectively in the community to help achieve their social and personal goals and make informed decisions in life.

Positive Moods also has the Behaviour Support Plan where NDIS certified professionals help build positive behaviours among individuals in Toowoomba who have experienced harm, are at risk of harm, or have caused harm to others. The interventions involved are more intensive, client-focused, and results-oriented all aimed at the improvement of the NDIS participants. The Behaviour Support Plan includes:

  • Special Behaviour Intervention Support caters to NDIS participants who displayed harmful behaviours toward themselves or family members, carers, and support people. Positive Moods counsellors are highly qualified to provide specialised intensive interventions in hopes of replacing or reducing the challenging and dangerous behaviours.

  • Positive Behaviour Support Plan is an intervention where Positive Moods counsellors work with the client’s family, carers, and support system to develop a deep understanding of why the person engages in challenging behaviour. The method also means improving the individual’s lifestyle so they do not feel isolated and changing their environment in order to have more meaningful and positive social relationships.

  • Training in Behaviour Management reinforces the interventions in the Positive Behaviour Support Plan for the treatment methods to become sustainable and produce desirable results. The client’s family and carers will go through training from Positive Moods counsellors so they could continually implement the Positive Behaviour Support Plan as required due to the client’s disabilities.
