NDIS Autism Assessment Darwin

"We currently have no capacity in this area, however if you fill in our enquiry form you'll be added to our waiting list."

Having an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be the most challenging developmental health condition that an individual may go through, making it hard to perform daily activities due to difficulties in speech and verbal communication, social relations, and repetitive behaviours. It also affects individuals by making them withdrawn and lessening their functional capacity, resulting in difficulties in achieving their goals. Thus, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) offers the NDIS Autism Assessment to the citizens and residents of Darwin experiencing ASD to assist and improve the condition of the participants, their families, and carers.

The NDIS Autism Assessment can be avail by the citizens and residents of Darwin who are eligible NDIS participants, whether old or new at the Positive Moods. With the NDIS Autism Assessment, it is easier to collect vital information serving as evidence for the participants to prove their disability and verify their eligibility to apply for the NDIS funding. In addition, the NDIS Autism Assessment can help participants in the planning process to develop a support plan in line with their needs, goals, and unique conditions.

What is NDIS Autism Assessment Darwin?

Since applying for NDIS ASD funding will require the participants to prove their disability, the NDIS Autism Assessment can help collect vital information about the participant's functional capacity. Moreover, the collected data will be used by healthcare providers during the planning process to determine the types of support and therapy that match the participant’s needs and conditions. The NDIS Autism Assessment will not replace the current medical therapist of the participants. Instead, it can help collect reliable and up-to-date assessment reports about the participant's overall functional capacity, which is vital to perform daily tasks.

Furthermore, the NDIS Autism Assessment is a great way to determine the participant's existing skills and the task they can perform independently, and which areas in their life need support and development. Thus, the NDIS Autism Assessment is beneficial for all Australians with disabilities and accessible by old and new NDIS participants to ensure that the support plan is given fairly and in line with the participant's needs, goals, and unique condition. Participants with exiting NDIS ASD funding can also access this assessment to help them update or make changes in their support plan whenever necessary.

How to Administer NDIS Autism Assessment?

It can be frustrating to go through loads of assessments for individuals with ASD, costing too much to collect vital information about their functional capacity to prove their disability and verify eligibility to acquire NDIS funding. Thus, Positive Moods offers free the NDIS Autism Assessment to the citizens and residents of Darwin, both for old and new NDIS participants, which can be acquired regardless of financial condition, with a 1 to 4-hour duration per session.

Also, considering that individuals with ASD may feel uneasy meeting new people and have anxiety during observation, healthcare professionals at Positive Moods understand that they need to administer the NDIS Autism assessment based on the participant's convenience. That's why the participants, their families, or carers can request several assessment sessions to ensure that the observations are accurate and efficient. The NDIS Autism Assessment can be administered based on the participants, their families, or carers' availability, and which location they are comfortable to receive the assessment, like their home or other spaces.

The participants will also receive from Positive Moods designated and experienced healthcare professionals that can assist them during the assessment, such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, rehabilitation counsellors, social workers, and psychologists. Thus, if you’re a citizen and resident of Darwin or you know someone in the area with ASD, we encourage you to book an NDIS Autism Assessment with Positive Moods to receive the utmost care and observation from licenced healthcare professionals.

During the assessment, healthcare professionals will use the National Guideline for Autism Assessment and Diagnosis. Assessment reports and feedback are also provided to the participants as proof of ASD diagnosis. If the participant is diagnosed with ASD, they should send the assessment report to the NDIS to obtain and develop a support plan. Then, contact Positive Moods to acquire the therapy services that match their plan. If you're an old NDIS participant, the NDIS Autism Assessment is necessary if there are significant changes in your life, such as entering school or transitioning out of the NDIS plan.

What are the Types of NDIS Autism Assessment?

Assessing individuals with ASD will vary depending on their age and functional capacity, so administering the NDIS Autism Assessment also differs to ensure that the support plan will match the participant’s needs, goals, and unique condition. The following are the types of NDIS Autism Assessment, including:

  • Diagnostic Assessment

The Diagnostic Assessment type is created to observe ages 2 years old and above if they exhibit autism or not. During this type of assessment, the assessors will interview the participant's family, conduct clinical observation, observe the participant's functional capacity, give a feedback session and a summary report. Once the assessment is performed, the participants will receive a letter consisting of a diagnostic conclusion, ASD severity level, general recommendations, and the participant's and their families' developmental and medical history.

  • Screening and Early Development Assessment

The Screening and Early Development Assessment is created to observe younger children ages 12 months to 2 years, catered for parents worrying about their child's developmental progress. This type of assessment is conducted to observe a child's overall functional capacity and determine if a child shows early signs of autism. During this assessment, assessors will provide a parent checklist, clinical observation, developmental assessment, feedback session, a summary report, and a diagnostic letter.

  • Review Assessment

The Review Assessment is created for old NDIS participants, ages 4 years old and above, and diagnosed with ASD. With this type of assessment, the latest information is collected about the participant's functional capacity and significant changes in their life, such as preparing to enter school or getting a new job. This assessment is essential to ensure that the participant's support plan matches their current needs, conditions, and goals. The Cognitive Assessment is also recommended for participants preparing to attend school.

Who are Eligible for NDIS funding?

If you're new to NDIS funding, here are the following criteria you need to meet to receive a support plan, including:

  • Living with permanent and significant disability

  • Ages 7 to 65 years old (ECEI is given to children below 7 years old)

  • Residents and Citizens of Australia

  • Holds a Permanent Visa or Protected Special Category Visa

Also, since individuals with a disability have different needs, goals, and conditions, the NDIS ASD support plan is created in line with the participant's functional capacity, determined based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5):

  • Level 1- Requires Support

  • Level 2- Requires Substantial Support

  • Level 3- Requires Very Substantial Support

The NDIS ASD funding is automatically given to an individual diagnosed with Level 2 or Level 3 Autism and are no longer required to undergo further assessments. However, individuals with Level 1 Autism diagnosis are still required to undergo assessments to collect evidence, proving their disability and eligibility for NDIS funding.
