NDIS Autism Assessment Canberra
"We currently have no capacity in this area, however if you fill in our enquiry form you'll be added to our waiting list."
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the most challenging developmental conditions, making it hard for affected individuals to perform everyday tasks due to repetitive behaviours, difficulties in social relations, and speech and nonverbal communication. Additionally, individuals living with ASD may become withdrawn and have a decreased functional capacity, making it hard for them to reach their goals. That's why the National Disability Insurance Scheme offers the NDIS Autism Assessment to the citizens and residents of Canberra, who are living with ASD, which can help them improve their condition and make the participants, their families, and carers’ life's better.
The citizens and residents of Canberra who are eligible NDIS participants, both old and new, can now access the NDIS Autism Assessment offered by Positive Moods. This service can help gather the information that will serve as evidence for the participants to prove their disability and confirm their eligibility to acquire NDIS funding. Moreover, the NDIS Autism Assessment can assist in developing the planning process, ensuring that the support plan catered by the NDIS matches the participant's needs, goals, and unique conditions.
NDIS Autism Assessment Canberra
The NDIS Autism Assessment can help gather vital information about the participant’s functional capacity to determine their eligibility for NDIS ASD funding. Also, the collected data is essential in the planning process to help healthcare providers identify which support and therapy will work best based on the participant’s needs and conditions. Nonetheless, the NDIS Autism Assessment will not replace the participant's current medical therapists but helps gather reliable and latest assessment reports regarding the overview of the participant’s functional capacity that is vital in performing day-to-day tasks.
Apart from that, the NDIS Autism Assessment can help identify the existing skills that the participants exhibit, the task they can perform independently, and the areas that will need support and improvement. Considering that NDIS provides support to improve the lives of Australians with disabilities, the NDIS Autism Assessment can be accessed by old and new NDIS participants, ensuring that the support plan is granted fair and matches the participant's needs, goals, and unique condition.
Administering NDIS Autism Assessment
Going through several assessments may cost too much for most individuals to prove their eligibility for NDIS funding by providing vital information regarding their functional capacity. It is for this reason that NDIS Autism Assessment is administered for free to old and new NDIS participants, regardless of their financial condition. The test usually lasts between 1 to 4 hours. Healthcare professionals at Positive Moods understand that individuals with ASD will be uncomfortable meeting new people and may cause anxiety when being observed. Thus, the participants, their families, or carers can request to administer several assessment sessions to ensure efficient observation.
The NDIS Autism Assessment is also administered depending on the participants, their families or carers' available time, and preferred location such as their home or other spaces are at ease to perform the assessment, ensuring that everything is comfortable and convenient. Positive Moods will assign well-trained healthcare professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, rehabilitation counsellors, social workers, and psychologists to help with an efficient assessment. Thus, we encourage the citizen and residents of Brisbane to book an NDIS Autism Assessment at Positive Moods and work closely with licenced healthcare professionals.
Once the assessment is acquired, healthcare professionals will use the National Guidelines for Autism Assessment and Diagnosis. Then, the assessment report and feedback on the findings are given to the participants, serving as their evidence of having an ASD diagnosis. After confirming that the participant has an ASD, they can contact the NDIS and send the assessment report to obtain government funding and develop a support plan. Next, the participants, their families, or carers, can contact Positive Moods when the NDIS plan is available to receive beneficial therapy services. For old NDIS participants, the NDIS Autism Assessment is necessary if there are significant changes in their life. It includes starting or finishing school, acquiring a new job, changing health conditions, or transitioning out of the NDIS plan.
Types of NDIS Autism Assessment
Since the participants will have varying needs and conditions, the NDIS Autism Assessments will vary based on the participant's age and functional capacity to ensure that the support plan is provided fairly and matches the participant's needs.
Diagnostic Assessment. This type of assessment is administered to participants ages 2 years old and above to assess if they have autism or not. To perform the Diagnostic Assessment, healthcare professionals will interview the participant's family, conduct clinical observation, assess the participant's functional capacity, give a feedback session and a summary report. Also, a diagnostic letter is given, containing the diagnostic conclusion, the patient's ASD severity level, general recommendations, medical and developmental history.
Screening and Early Development Assessment. This type of assessment is administered to younger children ages 12 months to 2 years, recommended for parents worrying about their child's developmental progress. The Screening and Early Development Assessment is administered to evaluate a child's overall functional capacity and identify if a child exhibits early signs of autism. To perform this assessment, healthcare professionals will give a parent checklist, clinical observation, developmental assessment, feedback session, a summary report, and a diagnostic letter similar to the one under Diagnostic Assessment.
Review Assessment. This type of assessment is administered to old NDIS participants who have been diagnosed with ASD for ages 4 years old and above. The Review Assessment will assist the participant to gather the latest information regarding their functional capacity and if there are significant changes in their life like getting a new job. It is essential to perform the Review Assessment to ensure that the support plan is still in line with the participant's needs, goals, and current condition. In addition, participants who are preparing to go to school will be advised to take a Cognitive Assessment.
NDIS Autism Eligibility
While the NDIS aims to help Australians with a disability, there are eligibility criteria that participants need to meet to access the support plan, including:
Living with permanent and significant disability
Ages 7 to 65 years old (ECEI is provided for children below 7 years old)
Residents and Citizens of Australia
Holds a Permanent Visa or Protected Special Category Visa
Aside from being an eligible NDIS participant, the support provided will differ based on the participants functional capacity, which is determined using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5), stating the 3 levels of ASD:
Level 1 – Requires Support
Level 2 – Requires Substantial Support
Level 3 – Requires Very Substantial Support
For individuals diagnosed with Level 2 or Level 3 Autism, the NDIS funding is granted automatically, and no further assessments are needed. On the contrary, individuals diagnosed with Level 1 Autism should go through assessments to gather more evidence to prove their disability and confirm their eligibility for NDIS funding.
