The in-home psychological care is designed so that the Positive Moods team can provide mental health services to clients while in the safety and comfort of their own homes. The client’s need for transportation and travel is eliminated. Additionally, the Positive Moods team can readily have access and timely communication to the client's families and carers, as well as other NDIS, credited providers and services the client uses to ensure a holistic mental health care service for the client.
Behaviour Support
One of the psychological services Positive Moods to NDIS participants and their carers is behaviour support. In particular, Positive Moods uses a method called Positive Behaviour Support for children and adults engaging in challenging behaviours. Positive Behaviour Support promotes positive behaviours to be developed and prevent or minimise negative behaviours from happening using various strategic methods that are customised to the needs of the client.
Specialist Behaviour Intervention Support
The Positive Moods team is equipped to provide highly specialised behaviour intervention support for NDIS participants who show significantly harmful or persistently concerning behaviour. Specialised behaviour intervention support can prevent the targeted behaviour from repeating in the future through various strategic methods such as rewards for the client’s good behaviour. The Positive Moods team addresses the root cause of the problem behaviour to prevent it from repeating in the future.
Behaviour Management Plan
The Positive Moods psychologists will collaborate with the NDIS participant's carers and other relevant stakeholders to develop a customised behaviour management plan (also known as a behaviour support plan) to help the client towards developing positive and productive behaviours and reducing negative or dangerous behaviours. The Positive Moods Gold Coast team will have to administer an assessment on the client exhibiting concerning behaviours to identify the specific behaviour that needs to be reduced. The assessment is used to help develop and identify strategic methods that are useful to teach the client to develop proper behaviours and reduce unwanted behaviours. The strategic methods may be such things such as restrictive practises and the specialised behaviour intervention support mentioned above. Determining the methods to use will also depend on the client the behaviour they are exhibiting and their individual needs.
Training in Behaviour Management
The Positive Moods team also provide training in behaviour management for the NDIS participant’s other stakeholders. This is to complement the behaviour management plan. The stakeholders will be trained on how to administer the agreed strategic methods outlined in the behaviour management plan. Training the other stakeholders is an important step for the behaviour management plan to effectively achieve its objectives. This is so that the stakeholders can administer the selected strategies on the client even without the Positive Moods Gold Coast team’s supervision.
