Positive Moods was founded by Mark Korduba, a psychologist, in 2018 to provide counselling and assessment services to the Level 3 Accommodation Facility Avalon Village. As his workload increased, Mark recruited an admin person and other psychologists to share the workload, and Positive Moods was officially founded by the end of 2019 with a full-time admin, Mark, and 4-5 contracting psychologists. The company's name, initial website design, and branding were done by Mark's wife Phoebe.

Initially, Positive Moods focused on providing counselling services to people on the NDIS with a psychosocial disability. However, the company's focus shifted once practitioners began taking on behaviour support referrals. Positive Moods underwent a significant audit process costing tens of thousands of dollars to become an NDIS registered provider, especially in regard to Positive Behaviour Support Plans. By late 2020, the company had taken on additional admin staff and its first Behaviour Support practitioners as full-time employees.

The company has since grown and matured, and now includes a psychological assessment arm, a training arm, and an early intervention arm. Positive Moods is run by a management team of clinicians who all still maintain caseloads. The focus from the beginning has been on improving the admin function, employee onboarding and training processes, and delivering excellent service to participants and their families.
